I never thought in a million years that I would be writing a blog. When I was younger, I always tried to start a diary. In my teens, I would write about silly “drama” and boys. When I graduated high school and joined the Coast Guard, I thought a journal would be great therapy. However, none of those worked. The longest I kept a diary or journal was three days—not a good running streak. Being a mom and doing everything a mom does gets pretty exhausting. At the end of the day, all I want to do is relax with a glass of wine and do nothing.
About four months ago, I was having a day where sh*t was hitting the fan; just one thing after another. My mother-in-law had mentioned that I should start a blog. I was real excited, but with school and the kids, I didn’t feel like putting in the extra work. It wasn’t until last week when a dear friend of mine started her blog. That was my boost of energy to stop being lazy and start writing.
So, you may be wondering about the title to my blog. Well, my wonderful friend had given me the idea and I thought, “Hmmm, this does fit me and the life I am living.”
The zombies stand for my obsession with AMC’s show, “The Walking Dead.” For those that know me, I am terrified of scary movies. I mean, real scared. I cannot even watch a horror film preview on the television without getting scared and turning the channel. However, when the first season of “The Walking Dead” came out on DVD, my husband had bought the first episode on iTunes so we could see if it was worth watching. Needless to say, we were hooked. I will say I was scared at first because the makeups on the zombies are phenomenal! It wasn’t until the second season when I became a true TWD addict. I love the series and I am always talking about it.
Now for the cake. Once I took my temporary separation from the Coast Guard, I began to cook more from scratch. I am now making homemade bread, brownies, granola bars, cakes, etc. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t do anything fancy with the cakes. I just want something sweet at the end of the day.
And last, but not least, the kids. I have an energetic four-year-old son and a one-year-old daughter who is already becoming quite the drama queen. Together, these two kids create chaos, laughter, and love. At times, it is very challenging, but they are my reason why I gave up the Coast Guard. My children need me and I need them.
This is why I am starting a blog. I want to be able to use this as a place to vent about the sh*tty days and rejoice the good times. As a mother, we need a break after a crazy day. With my posts, I hope people—espeicailly mothers—can connect and relate with these stories. I will also include recipes, articles, and stories about my life. I want to share with everyone my life as a mother, and everything else in between.
